Troubleshoot and Get Help
Start with the symptom you see. Use Practice to check inputs without creating test records in your real Data.
On This Page
Input Is Not Recognized
- Make sure you are using the main canvas, not a Settings page, another app, or the back of your phone.
- Open the Rule and confirm that it is Enabled and has the Trigger you intend to use.
- If it uses a Gesture, confirm that the Gesture is enabled in the library.
- Use the Rule's Practice option. For a Knock, match the rhythm, number of fingers, and Tap/Hold pattern. For a drawing, use one stroke in the saved direction. For a multi-finger Gesture, check finger count and movement direction.
- For a combination, follow every Step in order and avoid pauses that reset progress.
- Open Recent Input to see what the app recognized and whether a Rule matched.
For a Knock that remains difficult to repeat, record it again with a simpler rhythm or a different Sensitivity. For a drawing, try more consistent samples or carefully adjust Recognition Threshold. That threshold does not adjust Knock or multi-finger inputs.
No Record Appeared
Check whether you were in Practice or Replay Introduction. Neither creates records.
Then check the Rule type: a Moment records an occurrence; starting an Activity begins time tracking, but its completed count increases only after it ends. Check the range in Data and try All.
If you saved a Gesture but never assigned it to a Rule, it cannot record that Rule. If confirmation text is off, verify Data rather than relying on a message. You can use the Rule's manual button to record while you investigate input recognition.
Inspect Recent Input
- Open Rules → Recent Input using the clock-arrow control.
- Select an entry to expand its inputs.
- Compare Input with Rule. A recognized input does not necessarily match a saved Rule; look for Matched <Rule name> or No Rule matched.
Recent Input is for review. It does not show a match score, explain every recognition failure, or create a Rule or Gesture for you.
To clear this review list, use Clear → Clear Recent Input. Saved Rules and recorded data are not changed.
An Activity Started Again Instead of Ending
Check whether the Rule has a separate Start Trigger. Repeating that Start Trigger while it is in progress ends the previous record and starts another. Use its End Trigger or End in Rules to stop.
If you prefer a toggle, end the Activity first, open its detail page, and choose Use Start Trigger as Toggle. See Use One Trigger to Start and End.
No Alert Appeared
Check that the Rule has End automatically enabled and that the Activity reached its planned end rather than being ended manually. Then check Settings → Feedback & Alerts → Alert when an Activity ends and Notification Permission.
Use Open System Settings if permission is off. Review relevant system notification settings. Reopen Just Knock to update any finished Activity and its Lock Screen display. The absence of an alert alone does not tell you whether a record exists.
A Purchase or Export Did Not Finish
For a purchase, check whether the state is pending approval, temporarily unavailable, or a connection error. Follow the displayed next step. Use Restore Purchases if you already own Pro.
For export, confirm that Pro is available, retry Export Data, and complete the system share sheet. If you expected only the current date range, note that export includes all records. Do not share the file until you have checked its contents.
Common Questions
A drawing passes Practice but fails on the main canvas. What else can I check?
Check that its Rule and Gesture are enabled and that you are performing the saved Trigger. If you have enabled many drawing Gestures, disable unused ones and try again. The current main canvas loads up to 24 enabled drawing Gestures, including built-in drawings; Practice can include a drawing that is not in that loaded set. This limit does not count the built-in multi-finger Gestures.
Should I delete and recreate things to fix recognition?
Try Practice, check Enabled states, and simplify or re-record the input first. Deleting a shared Gesture removes entire Triggers from affected Rules. Deleting a Rule keeps its records but cannot restore that Rule. See Manage Rules and Gestures before removing anything.
Contact Support
Open Settings → About → Send Feedback. Include what you expected, what happened, the Rule type, the input you used, and whether it works in Practice. App and iOS version fields are included in the feedback draft.
If you attach screenshots or an export, check for personal information first. You do not need to send all of your records to describe a problem. Support, Privacy Policy, and Terms of Use are also available in About; these open external pages and may need a connection.
