Manage Rules and Gestures
Rules describe your records. Gestures are shared inputs. Editing one can affect several Triggers, so check the consequences before removing it.
On This Page
Edit or Disable a Rule
Open Rules and tap the Rule's name to see its detail page. You can change its name, edit its Triggers, or adjust automatic end for an Activity. The Rule type is shown for reference; to use a different type, create a new Rule.
To stop using a Rule without deleting it, choose Disable Rule in its detail page. You can also swipe left on its list row to reveal Disable Rule or Enable Rule. Swiping reveals the actions; it does not immediately delete the Rule.
Disabled Rules keep their configuration and records, but do not respond to Triggers and have no manual execution button. An enabled Rule with No trigger can still be used manually and still counts toward the free limit.
Before You Continue: Disabling an in-progress Activity requires End and Disable. It ends the current Activity now before disabling the Rule.
Delete a Rule
Before You Continue: Deleting a Rule cannot be undone. Its records are kept. If its Activity is in progress, deletion ends it first.
- In Rules, swipe left on the Rule's row.
- Tap Delete.
- Check the Rule name and confirmation message.
- Choose Delete, or End and Delete for an in-progress Activity. Use Cancel to keep it.
Past data can still appear with a Deleted marker. Creating another Rule with the same name makes a separate Rule; it does not reconnect or merge the old records.
Edit or Disable a Gesture
Open Settings → Input & Recognition → Gestures, then select a Gesture. In its detail page, adjust Enabled, Display name, or Color.
Disabling a Gesture stops it from being recognized and removes it from Choose Gesture. It does not delete the Gesture, remove it from saved Triggers, or disable the Rules that refer to it. Enable it again to use it, or use the Rule's manual button while it is unavailable.
Built-in Gestures can be disabled and have their display name or color changed, but cannot be deleted. To use a different drawing shape, create a new Gesture and assign it to the relevant Rules; the detail page does not re-record the existing shape.
Delete a Custom Gesture
Before You Continue: End any Activities that use this Gesture before deleting it. Deletion cannot be undone. Every Start or End Trigger containing this Gesture is removed in full, including other Steps in that Trigger. It does not simply remove the Gesture's Step.
If only a separate End Trigger is removed, the remaining Start Trigger becomes a start/end toggle. Check affected Activity Rules before using them again.
- Open the custom Gesture's detail page.
- Tap Delete Gesture and review the affected Rules in the confirmation.
- Cancel if you need to finish an Activity or inspect a Trigger first.
- Confirm Delete Gesture only when you are ready.
- Open each affected Rule and assign replacement Triggers as needed. Manual buttons remain available on enabled Rules.
Rules and their records are kept. Built-in Gestures cannot be deleted.
Common Questions
Why does a saved Trigger still show a Gesture's old name?
A saved Trigger can retain the name from when it was assigned. Renaming the Gesture does not make it a different input. Check the Gesture library and the Rule's Trigger if the displayed names differ.
Does disabling a Rule hide or remove its data?
No. Enabled and Disabled control whether you can use the Rule, not whether its past records exist. Check the selected range in Data if you cannot see a result.
